“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!”
~Dr. Seuss
I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field and have worked with individuals, couples, families and groups in both community mental health centers, specialty brain imaging clinics, as well as private practice. In 1991, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in both Psychology and Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara where I was a member of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. I obtained my Master's degree in Counseling from West Virginia University in 1995 and have been a Nationally Certified Counselor since 1996.
Since that time, I have worked as a high school therapist working for a partnership between Arapahoe House and Denver Public Schools and served as the director of a day-treatment center for adolescents dealing with both substance abuse and mental illness issues like depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, and bipolar disorder.
Additionally, I spent many years working with clients seeking improved diagnosis and treatment utilizing cutting-edge brain imaging technology. This experience has given me a unique perspective and understanding of the influence of biology on our thoughts, feelings and behaviors along with the effect of our life experiences.
I love my work. As I sit with clients, whether a stressed student, a person recently laid off from work, or a depleted mother of young children, I am reminded time and time again, that we all have a great capacity to grow and change, given the opportunity. I am honored to be a part of that process.
